Canadian Championships Of Magic 2009 Thank you for your interest in the CAM stage and close-up contests. Below you will find a copy of the Rules and Regulations for the contests. It is important that you read the rules before applying. Since there is to be a video screening of all the competitors to determine eligibility, you MUST respect the deadlines. To download a copy of these rules and an application form, please click here. When you complete the application, please make sure you have given ALL the information asked for, and that your registration for the convention, video, and act sheet are included in one package. The act sheet should be TYPED on a separate, letter-sized (8½x11) sheet of paper. RULES AND REGULATIONS The following rules and regulations apply to both close-up and stage competitions. 1.There is no age limit for either the close-up or stage competition. A junior category will be added this year. 2.Your package must arrive on or before April 19th 2009 to be eligible to compete. When your package arrives, you will be informed by e-mail. 3.Each performer must be registered for the full duration of the convention. If there is an assistant involved in the act, he or she must also be registered at the convention. 4.The Awards ceremony will take place at the Banquet. Each performer must attend the Awards Banquet. 5.You must bring everything you require for your act. Do not expect the contest committee to find tables for your stage act or any other equipment for the stage. There will be a stand-up mic available (not a wireless mic). Indicate if other types of mics are required on your Act Sheet. A table with tablecloth will be provided for the close-up competition. 6.Judging for both stage and close-up competitions will be by both official judges and by people's choice. The audience will be asked to vote for 2 contestants. Ballots with only one vote will be disqualified from the voting. Only those people who watch all of the acts will be allowed to vote. The final score will combine both the official judge’s evaluation and the public’s vote. The person with the highest result will receive the First Place Award. The contestant with the second highest result will receive the Second Place Award. 7.There will be a pre-contest meeting for stage and close-up contestants, the schedule will be included in the performer’s registration package. 8.Each performer must send a DVD of the act to be performed for competition. The act must conform to a time limit of no more than 10 minutes. If you are selected to perform, and your act is substantially different from the act submitted on the video, you may be disqualified. The video does not have to be professionally produced, and there is to be only one act on the tape. The main purpose of the DVD is for the selection committee to see your act. Therefore it must be clearly taped, but you do not need to tape your performance in front of an audience. Your DVD will be considered the property of CAM Montreal and will not be returned. 9.ALL pyrotechnic effects including flash paper is prohibited unless it is approved by a member of the organizing committee. STAGE COMPETITION The stage competition will be held on June 20th 2009. There will be no more than 7 contestants chosen to perform. These will be chosen by a panel of magicians that will rank the performances. Those receiving the highest ranking will be asked to perform at the convention. Each stage act must be no longer that 10 minutes or the act will be disqualified. It is strongly recommended that your act not exceed 8 minutes, so that audience reaction does not become a liability. Those contestants requiring music are asked to bring 2 copies on compact disc to the pre-contest meeting. Please clearly label your CDs with your full name. Sound cues will be taken at the pre-contest meeting. If possible, we recommend sending a CD with your music along with your technical cues ahead of time. CLOSE-UP COMPETITION The close-up competition will be held on June 19th 2009. There will be a maximum of 10 close-up competitors at the convention. These will be chosen by a panel of magicians that will rank the performances. Those receiving the highest ranking will be asked to perform at the convention. Each close-up act must be no longer that 10 minutes or the act will be disqualified. It is strongly recommended that your act not exceed 8 minutes, so that audience reaction does not become a liability. |
